My crawlspace duct is old and sagging — is it worth cleaning, or should it just be replaced?

In the newer downtown-adjacent townhomes, the problem is the vertical chase: a stacked washer-dryer in an interior closet pushing lint up two or three stories, where it settles at every joint and elbow, and where a loose or disconnected section inside the chase can dump lint into the wall cavity without you ever seeing it.
