Why does a clean vent still take three cycles to dry?

Usually the duct itself is the problem. Cleaning removes lint. It does not un-crush a flex elbow behind a pedestal, or re-pitch flex duct sagging between crawlspace joists. Sagging runs hold condensate. Wet lint packs into a mat. That mat comes back weeks after a brushing.

Repair work here splits by run type. Brick ranches often have a short rear-wall run in original 4-inch foil, shoved flat by a stacked unit. A rigid periscope or semi-rigid metal fixes that for good. The 1990s–2000s two-stories are the harder ones. Second-floor laundry, long run up to a roof jack, lint packing hard at the elbow. Birds nest in those hoods. Roof terminations also go wet and mushy after a January freeze, since the last few feet stay cold.

Two Charlotte-specific failures worth checking yourself. Pine pollen in April glues damper flaps shut on wall hoods (walk outside mid-cycle and see if the flap opens). And in July–August humidity, a marginal vent stops keeping up, which is when the no-heat calls come in that turn out to be the duct, not the dryer.

What decides whether we repair or reroute: existing material, run length, and whether the path is reachable. Vinyl and foil get replaced. Buried, unreachable runs sometimes justify a new termination instead.
